Octogenarian passenger who fell and broke hip on Vancouver bus awarded $115,000
Y.W, an elderly woman, fell and broke her hip when a bus driver accelerated into traffic without waiting for her to be safely seated. The transit company refused to accept responsibility and offered her $1.00 to settle her case prior to trial. E.J. Injured his back and neck when he was rammed by a stolen vehicle. His injuries compromised some of the overtime opportunities available to him in the police. The Supreme Court of Canada recently tossed out ICBC's appeal of a complex insurance jurisdiction case successfully fought by John Cameron in the BC Supreme Court and the BC Court of Appeal. Mr. Cameron defended a vacationing Idaho family caught in the middle of a jurisdictional tussle between ICBC and a U.S. insurance company following a car accident. Both corporations refused to pay more than $100,000 in medical expenses incurred following the accident, each arguing the matter was the other insurer's responsibility.
